Dino AHMAD ALI
Né en 1985 à Al Malikiyah en Syrie, Dino Ahmad Ali est diplômé des Beaux-arts de Damas en 2007 et oriente rapidement ses recherches sur les phénomènes d’illusion optique. Remarqué pour son travail, il décide de poursuivre des études en art numérique et en sciences de l’information et de la communication à l’Université Paris 8. Il s’installe en France quelques mois avant que la Révolution syrienne n’éclate en 2011. Son indignation face aux violences militaires et celles frappant les civils s’illustre jusqu’en 2015 dans des images numériques au fort impact visuel et graphique.
Depuis, ses œuvres, images numériques imprimées sur toile ou sur plaque polyester, présentent un labyrinthe de lignes vertigineuses défiant les repères et évoquant la chute. L’abstraction et le noir et blanc dominent un travail où le phénomène optique constitue le cœur du sujet. En 2016, Dino Ahmad Ali étend ses recherches sur l’illusion à des installations dans l’espace public comme à Puteaux, lors du Graffic Art Festival en 2016, ou un an plus tard aux Grands Voisins, à Paris, lors du festival Syrien n’est fait.
En 2018, Dino soutient sa thèse sur Le rôle du spectateur dans une installation optique interactive, travail de longue haleine qui accompagne et nourrit ses recherches plastiques.
L’année 2020 marque ainsi pour lui un tournant avec la «libération des couleurs». Formés de deux couches de plexiglass, ses nouveaux tableaux cinétiques changent de tonalité et d’aspect au gré des déplacements du spectateur par mélange optique des couleurs primaires matériellement présentes sur le support. Egalement photographe et vidéaste à ses heures, Dino expose régulièrement, en France comme en Europe.
Born in 1985 in Al-Malikiyah, Syria, Dino Ahmad Ali graduated from the Damascus Faculty of Fine Arts in 2007 and soon chose to explore the phenomenon of optical illusion. As his work gained recognition, he decided to pursue further studies in numerical art and information and communication sciences at the University of Paris 8. He travelled to France just a few months before the Syrian Revolution broke out in 2011. He expressed his indignation over the violence perpetrated by the military and the brutal treatment of the population in the numeric images, with a strong visual and graphic impact, that he created until 2015.
Since then he has produced numeric images printed on fabric or polyester plaques that present a vertiginous labyrinth of lines without any visual landmarks, evoking a state of free-fall. In his work, which is predominantly abstract and in tones of black and white, optical phenomena play a central role. In 2016, Dino Ahmad Ali expanded his research into illusions, creating installations in public spaces including Puteaux, during the 2016 Graffic Art Festival, and one year later at the Grands Voisins in Paris, during the Syrien n’est fait festival.
In 2018 Dino defended his thesis, The role of the spectator in an interactive optical installation, which resulted from much thought and research carried out in parallel to his artistic work, and which informed that work as well.
With the “liberation of colour”, the year 2020 marked a turning point for Dino. In his new kinetic paintings, made up of two layers of Plexiglas, the colours and forms shift as the viewer moves, owing to the blend of primary colours on the Plexiglas support. Dino is also a photographer and video artist; he exhibits regularly in France and Europe.
