Hélène AMOUZOU
Pendant près de vingt ans, Amouzou a vécu sans statut officiel. Dans de nombreuses photographies, elle est à peine présente – un flou fantomatique, résultat d’expérimentations avec de longues expositions, alors qu’elle se déplaçait dans le cadre. Des nus alternent avec des natures mortes et des portraits, révélant une interrogation profonde de soi.
Hélène Amouzou est une photographe togolaise dont le travail explore des thèmes d’identité et d’exil. Ses autoportraits ont été exposés en Belgique, en France, aux Pays-Bas et aux États-Unis. En 2010, elle a reçu le prix Médiatine. Son travail fait partie
de collections telles que le Brooklyn Museum (USA), March Gallery (USA), S.M.A.K (Belgique), SMART (Belgique), Tropenmuseum (Pays-Bas), Fotomuseum Den Haag (Pays-Bas) et KANAL-Centre Pompidou Bruxelles (Belgique).
For almost twenty years, Amouzou was without official status. In many of the photographs, Amouzou is barely there – a ghostly blur, the result of experimenting with long exposures, while she moved around in the frame. Nudes are interspersed with still lives and portraits, revealing a probing interrogation of a self in question.
Hélène Amouzou is a photographer from Togo whose work explores themes of identity and exile. Amouzou’s self-portraits have been
exhibited in Belgium, France, the Netherlands, and the United States. In 2010, she received the Médiatine Prize.
