Majd ABDEL HAMID
Majd Abdel Hamid est né en 1988 en Syrie. Il vit et travaille entre Beyrouth, Ramallah et Paris.
Tout dans la pratique multiple de Majd évoque le temps - le temps de la vie, le temps infiniment long d'un séjour dans les prisons syriennes, le temps d'une coupure de courant à Beyrouth... A l'opposé du tumulte contemporain, il veut "échapper au chantage des images, des informations, des déclarations... se retirer mais sans fuir". Il oppose une résistance patiente, que ce soit à travers ses broderies ou ses vidéos, à la production d'images à grande vitesse immédiatement oubliées, afin que la réalité des situations vécues soit tangible.
Il est diplômé de l'Académie des arts de Malmö et a étudié à l'Académie internationale d'art de Palestine à Ramallah.
En 2021, la Verrière Hermès à Bruxelles lui consacre une exposition monographique "A Stitch in time" dans le cadre du cycle "Matières à panser" initié par Guillaume Désanges. Il est exposé pour la première fois en France en 2021 dans l’exposition « Répare, reprise » à la Cité internationale des arts dans le cadre des projets curatoriaux menés par l'Association Portes ouvertes sur l'art. Il est représenté par la galerie gbagency à Paris, qui lui consacrera une exposition personnelle, " 800 mètres et le couloir " en octobre et novembre 2022.

Majd Abdel Hamid was born in 1988 in Syria. He lives and works between Beirut, Ramallah and Paris.
Everything in Majd's multiple practice evokes time - the time of life, the infinitely long time of a stay in Syrian prisons, the time of a power cut in Beirut... Contrary to the contemporary tumult, he wants to "escape the blackmail of images, information, declarations...to withdraw but without fleeing".
He opposes a patient resistance, whether through his embroideries or his videos, to the production of high-speed images that are immediately forgotten, so that the reality of the situations experienced are tangible.
He graduated from the Academy of Arts in Malmö and studied at the Palestine International Academy of Art in Ramallah.
In 2021, the Verrière Hermès in Brussels is devoting a monographic exhibition to him “A Stitch in time” as part of the “Matières à panser” cycle initiated by Guillaume Désanges. He is exhibited for the first time in France in 2021 in the exhibition “Repairs and stitches” at the Cité des Arts as part of the curatorial projects carried out by the Association Portes Ouvertes sur l'Art. He is represented by the gbagency gallery in Paris, that will dedicate a solo exhibition to him, titled « 800 meters and the corridor» in October and November 2022.
