Omar THEK ZEROUAL alias RAMO
At night, I’m a handful of dust

Né en 1990 au Sud de Casablanca au Maroc, Ramo fait un passage aux Beaux-Arts de Casablanca puis étudie les mathématiques à Paris. Contraint de s’installer définitivement en France en 2015, il poursuit son travail de création poétique et plastique et participe à des performances d’artistes.
À l’instar de Khalil Gibran, Ramo est à la fois poète et plasticien, et il écrit dans une langue qui n’est pas la sienne, l’anglais. Dans son installation The Man From Mars, présentée au Musée national de l’histoire de l’immigration en novembre 2019, il empile des cubes destinés à accueillir le «martien», l’étranger radical venu étudier les langues de la terre. Des citations d’auteurs «étrangers» y sont incisées à claire-voie. Ce motif de la claire-voie est récurrent dans la pratique de Ramo qui découpe le poème dans une matière ou dans une image, laissant les mots conduire le regard vers un au-delà. Plus récemment, Ramo édite des «cartes postales» sous forme de vidéos envoyées régulièrement à ses amis.
Outre son travail personnel, Ramo performe dans Présence de Mehryl Levisse (Musée des Arts Décoratifs de Paris, 2018), est acteur dans Vois ce bleu profond te fondre de Laure Prouvost (58e Biennale internationale d’art de Venise) et participe à The Clockwork (privately public, publicly private) organisé par The Performance Agency / Yael Salomonowitz (5e édition de Paris Internationale, 2019). Il est membre de l’atelier des artistes en exil depuis 2018. Ses poèmes sont publiés chez New River Press en Angleterre.

Born in 1990 in south Casablanca, Morocco, Ramo attended at the School of Fine Arts in Casablanca, then went to Paris where he studied mathematics. Obliged to settle permanently in France in 2015, he pursued his poetic and artistic work and took part in artists’ performances.
Like Khalil Gibran, Ramo is both a poet and an artist and he writes in English, a language that is not his mother tongue. In his installation The Man From Mars, which was presented at the Musée national de l’histoire de l’immigration in November 2019, he stacked up cubes in order to welcome a “Martian”, a radical stranger who came to study Earth’s languages. Quotations of “foreign” authors were incised into the cubes. The idea of letting light through is a recurrent one in Ramo’s work. He cuts out poems from a particular material or image, letting the words lead the eye towards a space beyond. More recently, Ramo has created “post cards” in the form of videos he regularly sends to his friends.
In addition to his own work, Ramo has performed in Mehryl Levisse’s Présence (Paris Musée des Arts Décoratifs, 2018), has acted in Vois ce bleu profond te fondre by Laure Prouvost (58e International Art Biennale of Venice) and taken part in The Clockwork (privately public, publicly private) organised by The Performance Agency / Yael Salomonowitz (5th edition of Paris Internationale, 2019). He has been a member of the Atelier des artistes en exil since 2018. His poems have been published by the New River Press in England.
